Audius
Seven years leading design at a decentralized music platform, from founding designer to full product ownership.
The role
In early 2018 I was freelancing part-time when I pitched a logo design to the Audius founders. I got the project, and a few months after completing it, they flew me out to SF to interview for a full-time position as the founding designer.
Seven years later, I’m still here. I’ve owned the design since the start: product design, brand identity, motion, and graphic design across every surface. Over time the role has grown to include product direction: writing specs, setting priorities, and making calls on what ships.
I contribute to the codebase directly, shipping code alongside my design and product responsibilities.
The product
Audius is a decentralized music platform built to give artists more control, more ownership, and a more direct relationship with their audience.
We were early enough to consumer crypto that most of what we built, we figured out without a playbook. Entire categories of companies now exist solving problems we had to figure out ourselves.
The platform grew to 7 million monthly listeners at its peak, with over 250,000 artists and 250 million total streams.
